The Research Track is an option
within the medical school curriculum, developed and approved by the
Curriculum Committee in the spring of 2003.
The overall goals of the
Research Track are:
- Allow students to perform an
extended research project within their 4 year medical school
curriculum, and graduate with their classmates.
- Expose medical students to
research and begin their training as Clinician Scientists.
- Be flexible enough so that
students may choose to extend their research experience beyond the
primary track and pursue a Masters or Ph.D. degree.
General features of the
Research Track are:
- Students will work with and be closely supervised by a faculty
mentor throughout this research experience.
- Students can perform research in basic, clinical, translational
or epidemiological science (prior research experience is not
required).
- Students will attend research related seminars (Responsible
Conduct of Biomedical Research; Grant/Manuscript Writing).
- Students who successfully complete the Research Track are
eligible for Graduation with Honors in Research and a Certificate.
