Research Track - Requirements
 
  • Students must perform at least 26 weeks of research, supervised by a faculty mentor, during medical school.

    • 10 weeks of research are performed in the summer between year 1 & 2 of medical school.  Summer Research Fellowship Stipends will be available, on a competitive basis, to support the student during this time period.  Following this period of research, students are required to submit a progress report.

    • A further 16 weeks of research will be performed either split between years 3 & 4 of medical school*, or entirely in year 4.

  • Students must attend seminars on the "Responsible Conduct of Biomedical Research" (during summer research) and Manuscript & Grant writing (year 2).

  • Upon completion of these requirements, and preparation of a research article upon which they are a primary author, Research Track students will be eligible to Graduate with Honors in Research and receive a Certificate.  For details follow the Graduation with Honors in Research link.

*Note that this option requires deferral of a clinical rotation until year 4, and coordination with Lynn Romrell, Ph.D. (lynn@dean.med.ufl.edu).
