Graduation With Research Honors/Faculty Prize

2004 Honorees

Brett Almond: Brett performed studies on the use of mitoxantrone-loaded albumin microspheres for localized intratumoral chemotherapy of breast cancer. Mentor: Eugene P.Goldberg, Ph.D.

Sirisha Bollampolly: Sirisha performed studies with William Friedman, M.D. on factors that are predictive of success or complications in arteriovenous malformation surgery. Sirisha also performed studies on hyperfractionated craniospinal irradiation reducing treatment related late effects in patients with medulloblastoma. Sirisha was the co-recipient of the faculty research prize. Her mentor for these studies was Nancy Mendenhall, M.D.

Jeffrey Brabham: Jeffrey performed studies on external beam radiotherapy for Hürthle cell carcinoma of the thyroid. Mentor: Robert Amdur, M.D.

Michael Falcone: Michael performed studies on hearing loss with stapedotomy in otitis media. Michael was the co-recipient of the faculty research prize. Mentor: Patrick J. Antonelli, M.D., FACS.

Angela Giancola: Angela performed studies on the evaluation of the cost-effectiveness and utilization of ACCESS, a primary care program for uninsured indigents in Gainesville, Florida. Mentor: Richard A. Davidson, M.D., MPH.

Paul Hebig: Paul performed studies on nuclear factor-kB up-regulation in colorectal cancer. Mentor: D. Scott Lind, M.D.

Janice Ho: Janice studied the evaluation of the cost-effectiveness and utilization of ACCESS, a primary care program for uninsured indigents in Gainesville, Florida. Mentor: Richard A. Davidson, M.D., MPH.

Charles Wesley Hodge: Wes performed studies on radiotherapy alone or combined with surgery for pleomorphic adenoma. Mentor: Robert Amdur, M.D.

Sima Jain: Sima performed studies on Nephrogenic fibrosing dermopathy in the pediatric population. Mentor: Stanton K. Wesson, M.D.

Amy Lee: Amy performed studies on the development of a web-based program to teach airway evaluation. Mentors: Tammy Euliano, M.D, Ilona Schmalfuss, M.D. and Jeremy Melker, M.D.

John Malaty: John performed studies on hearing loss and extent of labyrinthine injury in pseudomonas otitis media. Mentor: Patrick J. Antonelli, M.D. FACS.

Steven Messina: Steven performed studies at NIH under Howard A. Fine, M.D. The title of his project was: "Human marrow-derived neural competent cells migrate to and surround implanted U87 human glioma tumors in the mouse brain."

Anamaria Reyna: Anamaria performed studies on the treatment of carcinoma of the female urethra by primary external beam and interstitial radiotherapy. Mentor: Robert Zlotecki, M.D.

Mark Soliman: Mark performed studies on the levodopa modulating effects of inducible nitric oxide synthase and reactive oxygen species in glioma cells. Mentor: Karam F.A. Soliman, Ph.D.

Hugh Walters: Hugh performed studies at NIH under Russell R. Lonser, M.D. The title of his project was: "Successful and safe perfusion of the primate brainstem: in vivo magnetic resonance imaging of macromolecular distribution during infusion."

Jennifer Williams: Jennifer performed studies on the impact of age on ICU course and outcome in patients undergoing craniotomy for giant and non-giant unruptured intracranial aneurysms. Mentor: A. Joseph Layon, M.D., FACP.
